The chances are 3 % if you're using condoms. My fiance and I used protection. And guess what, I'm 4 weeks pregnant now. :-(

Okay on the side of the condom box it says 90% effective. That leaves ten percent chance that the condom will: break, have a hole in it, slide off, etc.
I'm sticking with abstinence it's 99.99999999999999% effective there was that one case around 2000 years ago that knocks the percentage down from 100%.

It depends on what type of protection one resorts to. Use of condom by the male partner in addition to what ever you have been doing is a guarantee to prevent conception.

I was on ortho (not as effective as most bc pills, we now know) and my husband was using a condom when we concieved our first child.
