If you are applying in an IPO, then the minimum amount generally varies between Rs 6000 to 6400. If you plan to buy from the secondary market, there is no minimum limit, you can even buy a single share of the company. In this case the minimum value would be the rate of the share itself. If you want to invest in Mutual Funds, then the minimum investment is Rs 500 via SIP route.

Investing in Shares is a very easy way. There is no minimum or maximum limits for investing in it.
If you have time you can go for a on-line trading account or you can go for traditional offline accounts through brokers. Firstly you will have to register yourself with NSe /BSe through a broker, the basic documents required are the PAN card and a Bank account. Regarding amount you can start with even 5000/- .
