ooooooooooooooowee, now this is my subject. been there, done that. both sides o' the street.
as for the best form, constant re-enforcement. of prime importance. reread sincere (above), i'm in total agreement. for sixteen years they bind you up with a small group of associates, feed you fluoride (known to cause some tweaky sh^t with the learning capacity of the mind, and fill you full of bs propaganda. add to that constant re-enforcement provided by peers and media, and you have a recipe for a mindless follower that will do as told. now then, mix in some pop radio, constantly repeating certain things, over and over again until..... 20 years later you know all the words to a song you've always hated. i mean, do you like Celine? bet ya know the theme to that movie, tho'; now don't ya?
my questions have always revolved around not how, but why.
before going off to viet nam i was lucky enough to be subjected to an interesting process. most americans would have been surprised and disgusted had they seen it in action. we did war dances, we chanted. it was all about kill. the weaker minds among us dam near slobbered. first they'd pizz ya off. get ya worked up. subtly at first, then building.
i'm very lucky, i found a way to rise above. actually, it was gifted to me. here's where religion kicks in; don't run away, hehe. i am getting to your answer.
eastern philosophy is all about cosmic conciousness, but it also teaches us how to live in the world, what makes the world "tick," and what is our role. and how to live life to it's fullest. there are means to understanding and methods to accomplish our goals. meditation is the means. (google it, this is too long already).
now to the method. constant re-enforcement. (my modern american term). dicipline. one could say focus, eyes on da' prize kinda thing. and chanting. this will re-enforce your focus, discipline. learn to breathe (yoga), focus, and chant.
you don't have to say om mani padme hum, or nam myoho renge kyo. you don't have to say mary, mother of god, the lord is with you. it's all about the focus and the over-riding conciousness that is your goal. see, you don't need to get all holy or anything, just understand the techniques. constant re-enforcement. under optimal conditions. simple.

Love. When ur in love, u'll do allmost anything the person asks of u--sometimes willingly, sometimes w/o relizing it. "Come on babe, u don't need to hang out with that girl anymore, all she does is whine and complain about her life, and she's dragging at a snails pace to change it, I don't think she want's to; u don't need friends like that, u can do better and she'll just drag u down." With that kind of reasoning to a young person just learning life, that's pretty persuasive, but the manipulator is thinking"I need to isolate her, and ordering her to do it won't work and I'll loose her." But the passisve way, the guy will most likely get what he wants, especially if it's the beginning stages where there are still feelings of attachment. Girls can do this too, I'm just citing one of my experiences; with a friend of mine(she said her bf's ex would do this to him), and I think he's doing it to her. And she tried and almost succeeded doing it to me!(she didn't use the word babe.
