I know of ones in the Odyssey but could someone give me examples that describe people living today? I'm not sure how to make one and I want to incorporate some epithets into a story I'm writing. Thank you! : ) Happy Holidays, too!

There are many current epithets for famous people (we just don't always realize they are epithets). Ex. For George Bush, the Decider. Even the term First Lady is an epithet for the president's wife. Other examples include Founding Fathers and... the big-bellied bringer of presents..LoL// Happy Holidays all!! ^ ^

Try taking a current term and putting a twist on it.

For examples, to help you think of some new ones, see

Example: taking "welfare queen" and using the term "welfare king" for CEOs who live off corporate handouts and tax breaks.

If a "beard" is a woman used as a cover for a gay man, what is a term you could use for a man used to cover for a lesbian?

I kidded a friend of mine from Scotland by calling him "Nordic White Trash."

Do you mean the classic use of "epithet" as in an adjective phrase attached to a name (or noun) that is culturally recognized through common use, like Pliny the elder, hammer-weilding Thor, ancient Methuselah, blood-red skies etc. Or do you mean one of the two culturally vernacular uses of the word epithet such as a phrase commonly used by one individual as an expletive for any situation ("Git 'er done!" or the older northern version "That won't git 'er done", "Shazam!", "How 'bout it!", "I'd buy that for a dollar!"), or, meaning another word for a swear word ("Shi*t!", "D*mn!", "F*ck!" or "F*ck you!" along with the east coast variant "F*ck it!" and the west coast variant "F*ck me!") Good luck.
