The United States still uses the old measuring system, like in., yd., and lbs. No other country in the world uses this. Also, Brazil grows most of it's fuel, like 95% and imports only 5%. Why doesn't the US grow ethnol and recycle more? The gasoline isn't going to last forever. Besides, the Middle Eastern countries that we buy our oil from hates us, I would go so far to say they would wipe our country off of the face of the Earth if they could. But of course, we brought this on ourselves because we set up their goverment some years ago, thinking they would be all grateful and sell us oil, but their not stupid. They know that most of the world's oil is right under their feet. I just know that we're going to get another C average president, and he's going to start another war over there in the Middle East, then we will be in deep trouble, because by then they will have so had it with us, and they will just give us the finger and cut off our oil supply. We must start getting it together!!

We are so behind the times, that every person in the world seems to want to live here. Sure, lets change everything we do, and everything we are just to make the rest of the world happy. We don't need to be independent. We don't need to have an identity of our own. We can adopt everything that other countries do. Sure thing....lets give up our flag too, and our freedom. Why not just tear up the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. That's a great Idea!!!!!

I agree with you that America has to change their measurement system to metric as it is more logical than the system they have currently.
For example, metric 10 mm = 1 cm or 100 cm = 1 m
Americian measurements, 12 inchs = 1 foot
The metric system is so easy to remember because everything is done in 10's and 100's.
I also believe America should ban guns because more accidents happen with people who own guns then protecting them.
As for oil, I don't care if they still run vehicles on oil still because Canada does the same (I am canadian). Anyways, I heard from a friend (this could be just a rumour) that the government (could be just the canadian government) is corrupt because the oil companies are paying the government to keep the vehicles to run on oil rather than vegtable oil. Besides I think 50% of what you pay at the gas pumps is tax not sure but it might be slightly less.
That is what I believe, take it or leave it.

It's an incredibly different and backwards world outside the USA.. . . . .not every country, but oh so many .

A lot of it has to do with a lack of leadership on the issue. the other thing is that the US is geographically isolated, and thus we lack the constant flow of people passing through with new ideas and such. There's less f a demand for us to make everything like currency and measurement standard so that people can find their way around here. Europe is much more compact, and that has a lot to do with it.

the united states is not to blame for the nutjobs in the middle east. nor for your lack of education. you are responsible for this. we have oil in alaska and the gulf to last 1000 years. (much higher than u can even count)
we just have to get the liberal tree huggers out of office so they can stop blocking the extraction of this oil. alas, they hate american oil companies more than they hate the head choppers in the middle east.

I live in Mn. farm country and our local gas stations sell ethanol. I don't know about the rest of the country but it sells here.

sure, babe, as if we never tried any of that before, as if america never had a gasoline problem before either. do the resaerch, and you'll find that the arabs had an oil embargo against us back in the 70's. but now look at us. the fact is, american government is corrupt.
watch the film WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR. on youtube, there's a pbs documentary about it.
