I'm 50 and others are very, very often stunned to learn of this as they thought that I was 36 or 41. I've experienced this reaction dozens of times. These comments come from work associates, store clerks, new acquaintences, men I met for dating etc. Gift or not ? That is not my question . . . I am wondering scientifically what would cause a person to age so slowely ? Family genes are of course there, but what is that gene? Any medical or science 'brains' out there know ? Authentic answers only please.

What age you look often has a lot to do with what has happened in you life and how it has affected you. I have seen folk go gray in days on the death of a loved one, or similar dramatic turn.

A hard life, especially one that turns hard, can also have a dramatic effect. As can the onset of a disease like heart troubles, diabetes, etc.

Also not everything happens at the same speed. Just as children have growth spurts at slightly different ages, so different things happen to folks getting older at different ages.

There is technical stuff like surgery and makeup and scientific stuff like telomeres but I suspect that what happens to you plays the larger part.

If you have been lucky enough to have dodged all those bullets as yet, you are fortunate, realize that, and consider those less so, for there but for the moment go you.

Interesting that you're mistaken for 36 or 41 but not 37 or 44. I don't have an explanation for that.

Interesting. I am 72 and for the most part look 50. I think we judge people by two methods.... 1) the face and its general appearance and 2) the way we carry ourselves and show energy and bounce (for lack of a better word).
For my part, I was exposed to low level ionizing radiation when I was part of atomic bomb tests in 1954. Science says that and low calorie intake are the only two ways to delay aging.

I doubt you're aging slowly... just gracefully.

You probably take care of yourself, don't smoke, eat healthy, work out, etc. Combine that with winning the looks lottery, and you are probably a definite MILF. Good for you! Enjoy the attention. I'm 42 myself, but have a baby-ish face.

Good for you!!! Genetics are the main reason...Staying out of the sun and living healthy help too!! I don't have the healthiest lifestyle, but my mom always looked young....God love her, and so do I. Rock on sister!!! Nothing like being old enough to know, and still looking good enough to do!!
