No rentals of this kind are available. If you want to avoid the things that happened to the other people that answered your question, Stay at an expensive hotel, avoid the places where just about anyone can afford to go. Lots of the stealing going on is done by other guests.(low lifes) that are also staying there and walk around unchecked.
I was a witness to a theft by a guest who told the maid that he forgat his key and needed to use the bathroom urgently, the maid let him in and he gave her a tip. Later I found out that the room had been robbed of everything valuable.
If your smart you wont get robbed, anywhere. I have been there seven times and never had a single problem.

Santo Domingo may be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European town in the Americas and in the event that you wish to see among the UNESCO World Heritage List then, that hotelbye may be the place. Santo Domingo is really a collage of countries and neighborhoods. It's where in actuality the seems of living, domino pieces smacked on platforms, backfiring mufflers and horns from disorderly traffic. In the center of the city could be the Zona Colonial, wherever you'll find one of many oldest churches and the oldest surviving European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you might find Gazcue, one of many city's oldest neighborhoods, full of previous Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.

I went to Dominican Republic years ago and our family camera got stolen from right under us at the pool. I would suggest getting a small camera at walmart or something and keep it hidden until ur ready to use it, dont wear it around ur neck or out in the open. The Dominican Republic was an ok place to visit (beaches and stuff) but getting the camera stolen ruined it for us.

have fun and be safe :-)

Go to Avenida duarte, look for Plaza Lama, out front where they sell pirate dvds you can get a digital camera for about $25. Not to mention the dvds for $2.
Moral or not, these folks really need the $

Dominican Republic aint that bad, it's just that you can be by your slef at night and make sure to be in your hotel room by 10 P.M, make sure to lock your door(s). And they dont rent well, they dont believe in that unless its a car, i think your better off bring one and charging it. * Don't say where your from or talk to anyone who talk spanish, cause if they see your *GREENGO* they will bash you, so dont speak english in the hotel area

I wouldn't go....no police, we were robbed in a private resort. No security...stole every thing from our "insured" safe that the hotel provided...yeah...insured for 1500 bucks....we were screwed...I wouldn't go back to Dom Rep for any reason...too many other nice, somewhat safer islands to visit.
