I don't mean that I am buying a computer, I am buying the Windows ME operating cd's and the Windows XP upgrade to save money.

Wait for the Vista to come out, and XP prices will drop, bigtime...

Just buy Windows XP because its a new windows (vista) coming out in Jan anyway. Even if you buy ME and then update it to XP you'll still be out dated. Dell has some good deals and so does HP. You should be able to find one for about 400 dollars that comes with a free update. Plus you gotta think about it, what if something happens to the computer that you got from ebay, its not as if the person is gonna take the computer back if you went out and bought one u could.

It'd probably be cheapest to go to Newegg.com or tigerdirect or some site like that and buy a hard drive AND an OEM copy of XP. They may sell you an OEM copy of XP if you buy certain other pieces of hardware, too.

I don't think you will be able to get a copy of an OS on ebay. MS tries to force Ebay to cancel such auctions.

Another option is if you are a student - then MS stuff is cheaper at school bookstores.

Here: $90 for XP plus $20 or $30 for a hard drive - whether you actually install the HDD or not is up to you.

You could look for someone who is selling a computer in your area with their version of Windows XP on it cheaper then both ideas.

I agree with the Vista suggestion for your money would be better spent on it if you are upgrading.

If you're planning a to use the Windows XP in a computer, buy someone's garage sale computer, make sure they have the Win XP installation discs with it and install them on your computer. Scavage the parts that may be useful of the garage sale one and sell the blank hard drive set up to someone with the garage sale one.

Make sure the discs are not a branded version of the computer company. Or you will have a bundle of trouble getting it to install on an unbranded computer you build at home.

I would not buy ME at all, its just a prettier version of WIn98
Personally I would buy Windows XP, and back up all my data, reformat the drive and do a clean install of XP, this way you will have a clean system without any problems.

Purchase a windows XP upgrade if u are upgrading. If not, purchase the XP itself.

It may be cheaper intially; but if it crashes you will have to reload both of them again. I disagree about eBay, I got a brand new OEM XP Home disk from a seller.

I wouldnt buy an OS from anybody on ebay
you run the risk of getting a copy that has been sold to 100's of people

I guess if you do not have ME OS yet then just go ahead and get windows xp instead

Get the upgrade. All you have to do during the install is insert the first disc or CD of any older version.
