The common belief is that the more cylinders, the more power, the more gas burned, cuz each cylinder gets gas put into it in an air:fuel ratio, it ignites, creating combustion, creating compression, creating power.....new 4 cylinders are typically the best on mileage, but my 1994 pontiac grand am v6 gets 21-25 and my 92 grand am 4 cyl. got 17-20....older cars mostly depends on how good the engine was taken care of overall, but there are things that can help any car.......air filter ($10).....oil and oil filter change every 3,000 miles($15-30).....new spark plugs and wires(call a shop, varies widely)....a comeplete fuel system treatment, go to auto parts store, ask, its just a bottle of liquid, they all have different directions but the best way is add in low tank at gas station, fill up after so that it mixes it up, drive until low again, usually you only need to do that every 3-4,000 miles....there might be other stuff so you can call a shop and ask, i hope this wasnt too much answer, lol

I'm gonna go and buy my first car this march. 6 cylinders use a little more gas than 4 cylinders but I think I'm gonna buy a 6 because it has a lot more power if you need to move somewhere fast. They're not really gas hogs. You'll probably just get a few mpg less than a 4 cylinder. It really depends on what u want in a car. If I were u I would get the mazda, cause I also want a mazda 6

actually, too many things factor into gas mileage to tell. Transmission, tire size and tread, front or rear wheel drive, and the weight of the car all make a difference. Generally speaking though, 6 cylinders will burn about 1/3 more fuel than a 4 cyl....Hope it helps.
