My friend was in my apartment by herself, I was in another friend's apartment. The fire alarm in the building went off(not the detectors in individual apartments). Protocol states that if the fire isn't in our apartment; we should remain calm until the fire ceases and the alarm stops(the doors are flame resistant). But if the fire IS in UR apartment, GET OUT, close the door behind u, and go to the landing(a spot on every floor like a hallway), and wait to be rescued by firefighters. MY friend, was in my apartment in the middle of a long soothing shower at this point. The fire alarm was deafening; she was scared, so she did the only thing that came to mind(her mind). She knew the fire WASN'T in MY apartment, but someone's; or it could be false. But she wasn't taking any chances, so, she had a full body length beach towel, which she wrapped and secured around her body. Then she ran out of my apartment all the way down the stairs(I live on the third floor), and out the double doors.

Everyone outside..including the maintenance man saw her(she had a bundle of clothes in her hand), he told her to change, so she went into the community room and changed...by this time everyone outside saw her, and so did I(she informedf me my door was locked, and I had to go out anyway). What would u have done? I am still dumbstruck she did what she did in public. This happened before thanksgiving. I told her it would've been wise for her to get dressed with speed(atleast jeans and a t-shirt), and then run. Because she informed me(30 min after the fact), that she neglected to grap intimates and needed to put them on(bra, panties, she just had a shirt and jeans in her hand). I asked her repeatedly y she did this(she was a laughing stock for a while), and she kept on telling me that she'd rather be outside naked, then inside clothed and burned. She defended her actions, as just(didn't want her bf knowing; one tug, she'd be nude). Am I wrong to think shse was really retarded to do that?

Ok, the main point in the question was: If u were naked, dripping wet, and the fire alarm in ur building went off; and u didn't know where it was coming from, would u take 2 minutes to put on a shirt and some shorts(to cover a girl's private parts), or would u just securely wrap urself in a towel and get out of the building no matter where the H*** the fire was?

I would have left the building, QUICKLY.
On 9/11/01 people in tower 2 were told to remain where they were after tower 1 was hit, you know the rest of the story . . .

If I knew the fire was not in the apartment, but did not know protocol- I probably would have run outside too. But I would have probably taken the 2 minutes, knowing the fire was not near, to throw on some clothes first.

Sorry......fire alarm goes off, no matter what, my first instinct is to get the heck out of the building.

I wouldn't care (till later, of course) if I was stark naked! Fire alarms go off for a reason..some silly (guys pulling them) some serious (an actual fire)

I'm not taking chances. I'd be outta there

My first reaction would be to get out of the building - I wouldn't worry about clothes...but I would take a WET towel and put on shoes - I could really give a rattsass about the buildings protocol...I wait for nobody' rescue !!!

Many years ago a friend and I were staying in a motel in California (we were from out of state) and there was an earthquake. I happened to be in the bathroom changing out of my swimsuit. Really bad timing. I grabbed a pretty big towel and them my robe and we ran and stood in the room doorway. Needless to say, this was what everyone else who was staying in the motel was doing too. To summarize, all I wanted was to get out of there and be alive. If your Friend was the laughing-stock with your neighbors, you should consider getting some better neighbors.

I think noone truly knows how they would react if they have not been in the situation. I think panic would set in, and the 'fight or flight' reflex would kick in. I believe that I would absolutely grab anything to cover my body and get out as fast as I could. (There's no way a stranger knows the fire protocol of someone else's house/apartment.) Plus as before, panic would preclude anything but the desire to save oneself in any possible way.

I'd leave to. Look what happened to all of the people in the second Tower that were told to remain where they were...
(9/11 reference if you didn't get that..they witnessed the fire at the first tower and wanted to evacuate for safety and were told they shouldn't leave)

My sense of self preservation dictates that I get the heck out. I don't care if I'm in a towel. I do care about being alive. I can get clothes later. I can't get my life back at any time once it's gone. Her priorities were in the right order.
