Yes you can. Bahasa Indonesia is quite similar to Bahasa Malaysia. Most of the signages are in bi-languages, i.e. Malay & English. So, if you could not understand Malay, you could read the one in English.

The Malaysian has been exposed to Bahasa Indonesiaa for quite sometimes through Indonesian television series, movies and songs. There are a lot of Indonesian immigrants in Malaysia too. If you lost your way around Malaysia, just stop by and ask. Malaysians speak English too.

I stay in indonesia and that i lived and vacation to Malaysia quite ofter for bussiness, I talk Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Javanese, Mandarin and English. Bahasa Indonesia and malaysia come from an identical root it really is bahasa Melayu. the most important vast difference is both language take up different languages, bahasa indonesia is blended of Malay ninety 2 p.c. + Arabian + Dutch + portuguese + English + Javanese + Hokkian + different community language like sundanese at the same time as bahasa Malaysia is blended of Malay 97 p.c. + English + Arabian + community malay slang in case you may talk bahasa Indonesia baku (standarized language) you'd be in a position to appreciate bahasa malaysia baku (standarized language) yet you need to study some note that in bahasa Indonesia isn't used as an example place of work in bahasa Malaysia is Pejabat, in bahasa Indonesia is Kantor (Dutch foundation). Malaysian note seems to apply historic note at the same time as indonesian seems to take up and use new note from english and dutch. listed lower than are some extra words : english = bahasa Malaysia = bahasa Indonesia cost ticket = tiket = karcis / tiket vehicle = kereta = mobil towel = tuala = handuk bathroom = tandas = bathroom / kamar kecil tower = menara -= tower / menara action picture theather = pawagam = bioskop there also some words which have similar pronounciation yet has differeent meaning malay note = meaning in Indonesia = meaning in malaysia pejabat = workforce / officer = place of work budak = slave = youthful toddlers butuh = want = penis pantat = buttock = vagina there are alot of note have similar meaning yet has vast difference standart of writing english = Indonesia = Malaysia funds = uang = wang because = karena = kerana yet i must claim ninety 5 p.c. of bahasa Indonesia and Malaysia is so similiar, the problem is only the accent

We were in Malaysia in May and we got along fine. My husband is Indonesian, so he speaks bahasa Indonesia of course. For the most part, the language is very similar to Malay. You may have a few words that you cant understand, but you should be fine!

yes, very very so!!!
most malaysians understand bahasa indonesia fine, i think that's pretty obvious from the amount of indonesian teledramas we get daily! plus, i believe there are indonesians almost everywhere in Malaysia, especially among the more populated areas (i.e KL, Johor, etc)
Don't worry, you'll be fine here. The language is not so different, and at worst i'm sure you'd be able to read all the signage around you (which are either in Malay or English). Have fun travelling in Malaysia!!

No way you would get lost in Malaysia with Bahasa Indonesia. But you would be lost in no time if you have nothing in your wallet.

nope..you will never get lost in Malaysia..almost every malaysian do understand bahasa indonesia as it is quite or very similar to Bahasa Melayu..but some Malaysian does not familiar with some dialect of Bahasa indonesia..

People from Jawa & Medan have the closest dialect to Bahasa Melayu..while others like Madura, Batak, Minang, Lombok and etc have deep accents which are hard to understand...

but no worries..Malaysian are very helpful and friendly..if you are lost. just ask and they will show you the way..
