"My salad days would be gone soon . It was great for a while ; those flashing kleig lights and thunderous applause. I could almost hear those screams of fanatic admirers..." Nicole,Nicole..Nicole.." Drowning me in a mesmerised -trance like state of fulfilment. I felt like God looking down upon my creation. I have felt the power I wielded among them. One gesture of my finger and they would come running at my command. When do these people ever learn that I am human too? That I feel the same emotions that they feel? That I am not a sinless goddess in a pedestal but also a human being who can commit mistakes? I am tired of all these pointless adulation. I am tired of being encased in a gold aquarium. Let me be. Let me be an unknown entity and yet someone who could enjoy my life in peace and privacy. I want to live the rest of my days in peace with the people who truly love me, no matter how insignificant I am"

Well, I know it's not the right location, but the character of the mother from "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams fits the description perfectly. Amanda is a mother of two grown children who have done nothing with their lives. She lives in the past of her glorious southern upbringing and often brags of the night when she had 17 gentleman callers. There is a great monologue from her when they have the gentleman guest over for dinner to meet her daughter Laura. As soon as I read your question, I immediately thought of her. It's definately a character worth checking out for a monologue.

BEST WISHES!!!

Hm. Semi tough one. Something close could be a monologue from the play The Royal Family, which is about former Prime Minister Trudeau and his wife, Margaret, who feels severely out of place where she is in the public's eye.
