When you hunch over the joints in your spine slide up on one another. It puts a stretch not only on the joint but all of the ligaments and muscles in the back. When you return to upright the joint slides back down and puts a stretch on the joint capsule which can cause the pop that you hear. You already know that you are putting your back under stress so you need to address that. Do not hunch over when you are studying. Sit at a desk in a good chair and keep your abdominal muscles tight to help give your back the support it needs. Over time if you keep sitting wrong that ligaments continue to get stretched out and they get loose. Therefore they are not able to give your back the support it needs, this forces your muscles to work harder and puts you at an increased risk for injury to your back. Prevention is key!

This is normal. When your spine is under a lot of stress like being hunched over for long periods of time it can shift a little and when you stand back up it moves back into place. It also can build up latic acid which is a waste produce from your cells. When you stand up the acid is released and it causes the pop.

I have the same problem but I also have pain and swelling. I went to the doctor to get some x-rays . Everything came out normal. Nothing is wrong with my spine. The doctor didn't know why I have that problem. (I'm 23yrs)

if it hurts when it pops then something is wrong. if it feels fine then it could just be your body adjusting itself to hunching over for so long. You should try taking breaks and stretching to releave pressure on the lower lumbar of your back.

It is the ligaments realigning. It is the same concept as what chiropractors do. I do it all the time. It is not likely anything to worry about. Ask a doctor.
