If it is for a bib. there is no need to check with other publishers or verify what edition it is. There is no need to make that distiction. You have all the information needed, author, date, title, publisher, etc, there wouldnt be more than one edition for the same book for the same date at least it is very unlikely.

I think it has to be written in the cover first edition, but check farther, I'm not positive on that. The few I have say first edition in the cover.

yes. that or it is the first edition by THAT particular publisher. check different publishers for the same book. you can easily do that by going onto amazon and typing in the title of the book.
