For you, smimming is the idealistic way. As you have been confined to a wheel chair, your legs will not me able to take in a run, cycle etc. Your muscles will have slightly disintergrated. Take a slow swim to start off with and then increase your speed after a few days.

Although your not permanantly wheel chair bound, Swimming is recommended for those with a disability, especially as it is painless and less tiring, compared to jogging/ walking/cycling.

Being wheel chair bound too, I can't see your food intake would have increased, so don't bother going on a diet. Also, I don't understand why people are telling you to go on a diet, you have had no exercise for the last so many months, hence why you have gained wait. - It's not as if you quit exercises to eat at macdonalds every day.

Oh and from past experiences, even if you lose weight (Good luck), the stretch marks will always be there, they will change color, from red to white, to match your skin color. Although they may not be visable to other people, you cetainly will know they are there.

Hope that helps

Only one thing causes weight gain in otherwise healthy people (some medical conditions can cause it through no fault of the individual): eating more calories than you are burning. "Diets" often fail because after we've lost the excess weight, we tend to return to old habits and put it all back on as before. Weight Watchers has a very good diet plan that's flexible and healthful and you get the support of other people. Plus, it's a plan you can use for life. This will help you reduce your calorie intake. The other very important part is EXERCISE. If walking isn't a good option, swimming or water aerobics might be a great idea. Of course, if you have a PT, he or she could probably suggest others that would be suitable and safe for YOU
You may need to see a dermatologist for the stretch marks, I just live with mine but you're right, they don't look great with a 2-piece. If there isn't much you can do, you could try to focus on, "Aren't I blessed to be alive and to walk again." Maybe wearing a 1-piece (looks better on most people anyway!) won't seem like such a big deal if you keep it in perspective. I've had a kidney transplant and I have a 9-inch red scar across my abdomen plus 4 scars from dialysis. I'd rather have the kidney and my health than an unscarred belly! Good luck to you and I'm very glad you're recovering.

It's my understanding that once you have stretch marks, you have them for the long haul. As for the weight, the diet my husband and I are using is: Breakfast -- cereal with yogurt and fruit, or oatmeal with fruit, or eggs with fruit. Lunch and dinner -- big salad, steamed vegetable and 4 oz cooked weight of some protein. It's yummy. Maybe if you lose the weight slowly, the stretch marks will fade more.

Don't drink soda.

Drink lots of water.

Eat cereal for lunch and breakfast. (with lots of fruit)

Excersize!!! go for a bike ride, it will tone your thighs and ESP your tummy.

excersize! walk a LOT!

green tea.

Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables; make sure to balance it with some good carbs, proteins, and calcium. Eat normal meals. Stay AWAY from trans fats and try to eat a minimal amount of saturated fats. Try taking vitamins too. Making sure your body is getting the correct nutrition and working to its maximum potential is very important for losing weight.
- If you feel you have a problem with eating too much... Taste your food. If you like it, taste it, meaning eat enough to feel satisfied, leave some behind. Don't eat until your a full... eat until you are satisfied. Portion control is also a large part of losing weight.
- Drink green tea: It will detoxify your system, increase your energy (it is a great pre-exercie drink) and boosts your metabolism to help your body break down your food faster and easier.
- EXERCISE!! Go for a walk or run with your friends, play with your dog in the yard if you have one, ride a bike or just do situps and jumping jacks during commercials while watching TV.
- Above all, DO NOT STARVE! Not eating, contrary to popular belief, is the opposite of what you want to do to lose weight. You will get hungry eventually and when you eat, you will be more likely to eat a lot and a lot of things that are quick and easy. Usually, things that are quick and easy are junk foods, and contain large amounts of saturated fats and trans fats. Your body will then hang on to the foods you eat because it will be conditioned to go long periods of time without food and will think that it needs to hang on to that food since you will not feed it again for a long time.

Particular foods to stay away from: donuts, microwave popcorn, chips, pasta, cream sauces (alfredo), yellow cheeses.

I tried 100% Hoodia and......
Hoodia has worked for me...and with no side effects.
Check with your doctor before starting any weight loss program.

For all you doubters, here is the prior feedback for another Answers user who followed my advice:

Asker's Rating: *****
very good comment i lost 2 lbs in a week
i think i can almost get in my leather dress, i can hit the town in no time

**** VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO GET RIPPED OFF ---

#1. Be sure you are buying pure Hoodia...look for the import certificate on the website. No matter the price, if they do not display this, you really do NOT know what you are getting!

#2. Be sure it is 100% Hoodia & not mixed w/other herbs, etc.!!

#3. Keep in mind it stops your hunger pangs…you MUST remember to break your habit to always eat at certain times.

#4. Drink a full 8oz. glass of water with it!

Hoodia (HOOD-ee-uh) gordonii - A genus of 10 to 20 species from southwestern Africa.
Hoodia gordonii is the stoneage wonder plant found throughout the dry arid regions of the South western African continent now on the verge of making history in the fight against obesity. It is a genus belonging to the Asclepiadaceae family which consists of approximately 20 species. Used to stop hunger, quench thirst, and provide energy among other things since prehistoric times, Hoodia gordonii was first discovered by the San tribesmen and women to get through the most difficult of times.

Stop eating after 6:00pm , avoid sweets such as soda and candy. This may sound weird but use stretch mark remover creams they can be found in the nursery section at a store

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Just stay away from junk food and excersize regularly. Stretch marks can be awful, but you can get special treatment for that. Ask your doctor about it.
