Hi-

For the first time ever I have a cleaning woman. She is working for an Ukranian woman/company. I pay the company $65 every two weeks (she cleans every two weeks) and she is here for about 5 hours. I do not know what her cut is. I tip her an extra $5 per week because i specifically asked for her because she ORGANIZES my messes and doesn't just clean around them-

How much do you think that I should give her for a Christmas tip?? I did find an Ukranian Christmas card too- and also- she speaks little English. i wanted to maybe make her up some flashcards of the things she may want to ask for especially. (i was clueless when she tried to tell me that she needed a sponge) do you think that this is something she would like or take offense to?

Help!

thanks!

I must first say You are someone people like to work for, just from reading it seems like you see her for more then your"cleaning lady"I also think its wonderful taht you tip here$5 everyother week :).
The Christmas bonus, this should be a weeks pay $65 and you could also give her a gift, ,that wouldn't be a problem. And the language issue, I clean for a lady whos family speaks spanish(they also speak english)but i'm learning spanish so I can speak to the children better, and talk to her family when they are in the country. So she might like if you could say a few words to her in her native tounge also.

the flashcard idea is wonderfully considerate of you! and I am sure she will appreciate the idea so she can best do her job.
But its not really a gift persay to help her understand where the cleaning products are! lol

I would suggest a inexpensive (she may be embarrassed or misunderstand if it looks expensive) portable tape or disc player with a basic english learning tape or disc in it. she can learn english while she works. when she learns a word for an item, say "door" put a post it note on the item with its name to assist in recognising the written word with the spoken word.

again it lovely of you to want to help. :-)

I think the flashcard idea is good, it's doubtful she'd take offense to it. Depending on how much you make/are comfortable tipping, tip her $15-$20 for Christmas.

If you can afford it, the full pay for two weeks, and buy her an English translation book and buy yourself a Ukrainian translation book. and tell her thank you in her language.
