unfortunately, how a political scientist would define liberalism and how it is actually practiced are two different things. The modern liberal loves government and thinks it is the answer to all problems. In fact it has been shown repeatedly that liberals give much less to charity than conservatives, mainly because they think the government should be doing everything and so they see no reason for many charities.
