There are no more unique ideas for a character. After 70 years of comic book publishers churning out super-hero comics, I think you'd be best going for a variation of a theme or maybe several themes combined somehow. If you're looking for originality, concentrate on human characteristics first. Find out who this character is before s/he gains their metahuman abilities. That may help define which direction you need to go with him/her.
