They are "safety" matches which means you have to have the box or package with the little strip to start them.

As compared to kitchen matches which you can strike on any rough hard object (stone, your shoe, etc.)

I fly a lot for business, and you can take matches on board, but you can't take a lighter. You can pack your lighter in your checked baggage, but not take it in the cabin.

If for some reason they do confiscate your matches, stop in one of the shops at the airport and they should be well stocked with disposable lighters.
