What a great question!I have been talking with one every week since I was 20.I think Psychology is a great tool to understanding the human mind.I do it because I have hurdles to over come in my life, and I just need someone to talk to about it for emotional support.I really don't care about what society thinks, and I don't think anyone else that sees a Psychiatrist does either.

Why, yes I have spoken to a shrink...and opportunely, the fee was also on the house. The bottom line is...'society' thinks I'm a little nutty, but loves me to pieces. But then, the doc is my mom, so besides breaching ethical codes, she might also be a tad bias.
If my mother chose another profession, I would want the feedback of an objective professional, during difficult times. But who is really positioned to give such sound advice? Everyone sees things through their own lens and their 'thoughts' of you and I will be subject to this.

I did once but didn't know at the time! We were delayed at the airport she and I sat and had lunch! I ended up telling her my life story! She just kept asking me questions after question! I couldn't believe I was talking so much back then you couldn't get me to say sh!t. When I finally was able to ask her what she did for a living and she told me I almost fell out of my chair! I felt great after words if lunch hadn't been free I would have payed for hers!

I never have, but at one time I thought about it. I wonder about the free part. Would your counseling be the same as other things---"you get what you pay for"??? I'll be interested in your other answers on this question Diesel.

interesting question- i've talked to a couselor and decided that's what i want to be- (people should not let the way society thinks about them effect who they are or what they do, what's important is what Jesus thinks of you)

I've been to one, but it really had nothing do to with what "society" thought of me. I needed help coping with the impending death of my father.

I have and I'll never do it again. I don't care what society thinks of me, only what God thinks of me.
