is it bad to use your head too much?

I use to be a bit of an intellectual but both my parents encouraged me not to think so much and to let go.

Now I think they were right ?? what do others think?

What are the consequences of letting your "head" dominate?

No, it's not "bad" to use your head too much but it will stop you from being a complete person. The head shouldn't dominate but neither should anything else. The point is balance and this can take a lifetime to achieve.

I think one of the reasons is that the two statements're reasonable and worth reflecting for educated people, that is, true scholars. The first one is simple since only fools dismiss intelligence (wisdom) and they of course will suffer when the time comes. The second one needs one's critical analysis and thinking, in other words, provided that you let your intelligence dominate you, it is worse because you tend to feel too proud with wisdom and may not care when someone advises you something. Having/expressing too much pride is vanity and then some troubles come and no one helps you. Therefore, it's always wise to be humble with your intelligence.

I think there is a difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge. I also think that sometimes we need to give our minds a break. I am one of those who thinks out everything. I have been told I think too much. So your parents are being balanced in their appraisal of you. I wish my parents had. If I brought home a B, my mother would write to the teacher and say she can do better. Striving is not all that it is cracked up to be.

Your parents were probably trying to get you to look at life with wide open eyes. Not to over think life and to know that sometimes you don't need to "Think" at all.Sounds like your lucked up with the parents "LOTTO".You'd be amazed at the "Intellectually Challenged" Parents in this world.Anybody can have a kid.Thank your parents.

We become according to our choices; our choices determine our being. The discovery of our believing a description was false, that it was thought true but failed, is the basis for the next choice.

That is an aphorism which deserves to be ignored. Intelligence should never be ignored and if it does dominate so much the better.

i guess so, i mean there is more to life than just intelligence, by focusing your entire life in that, you would have missed out on many things in life.
