It could mean that although you don't like THEM, you like the benefits that come with hanging out with them, eg: cooler friends, being accepted into certain cliques.. So even though you can't stand the person, you think that if you get as close as you can to them, you'll become "necessary" to them and then you're IN. Everyone wants to be needed by someone who usually doesn't need anything. Why do you think so many girls fall for "bad boys" who treat them like crap?
