My daughter got accepted to Penn State but Im afraid costs might prevent it. Im working class blue collar union guy that has been on and off at work. I dont think Ill get much financial aid and I dnt see alot of scholarships out there for acedemics (She has a 4.0 in honor classes) especailly if your non minority and born here and what everyone everyone but me says middle class. Where are the scholarships for people who bust there backs to get good grades?

Step 1: fill out your FAFSA as early in the new year as possible. You can submit it based on an estimate of your 2006 taxes. Make sure to check that you're interested in Work Study options.
Step 2: talk to Penn State's Financial Aid office to see what they will offer. If they don't offer enough aid, you can probably add further documentation to explain your "on and off" situation and ask for another evaluation.
Step 3: Finally, the same Financial Aid people can help guide your daughter in seeking out other sources of funding. Make use of their services.

WOW good job to your daughter!!!
I would advice you to go to your local community foundations, they usually have many many many schoolorships
YOU and your daughter should go to Penn state and tell them you specific situation and tell them that it will be hard to afford everything. If the parents talk personally with the finacial aide officer. It would be hard for the officer to say no!! he/she will probly offer your daughter more money.
see what kind of schoolorships they offer
and most importantly apply to FAFSA, the fedearl student helper thingy ASAP!!!!
if your daughter has an 4.0 it should be eassy for her to get scholarships
go to fastweb.com
you hoastly have to bust your behind for everything to work out right
Best of Luck to you

Fastweb matches you to scholarships once you enter all your information. I'm in the same situation as her (white, 4.0, middle class, etc.) and I get emailed to do a lot of essay-based scholarships. Good luck!

It sucks, doesn't it. All these scholarships for the minorites with 3.0 GPAs, and the common white folk don't get anything. It doesn't matter that we can't afford college, we're white, so we can do it. (Had the same problem getting scholarships for my college, in the end, I had to do some big student loans)
