The rule is, "as much as you can get".

But this will depend on a lot of things like the reason the children are being watched (mom and dad at work, a family emergency, mom is going on a date, etc) because some of these things are more valuable to the parents than others. It also depends on the age, number, and temperament of the children, and how much experience you have sitting. also it depends on the relationship you have with the parents. You might not want to charge as much to watch a sibling's children as you might the neighbor down the street.

In general, watching younger kids (infants, toddlers) that require more attention should earn higher pay. And watching more than one child should earn extra pay. You should also watch them for a predetermined length of time and get a bonus if you have to stay later than planned. And last but not least, well-behaved children should get a cheaper rate than for watching troublesome ones.

Whatever you do, don't sell yourself short and work for slave wages but also don't price it so high that the parents just might want to stay home instead of going out!

Really it depends on the number of and ages of the children involved. Also, are the children well behaved? Will you be doing anything like bathing/feeding/changing diapers? These things will all influence how much you should charge and what the parents are willing to pay. Our babysitter makes $250 a week for watching 3 kids (ages 8 months, 3 years, 9 years) for 30 hours per week, so a little over $8 an hour.

it depends on how old the children are and if you are certified (have taken a class). but on average...if the child is well bahaved then i charge $4/hour. if there is more than one kid and they are high maintenance then i would charge about 6:00/hour. if there is more than on kid but they are older and u just kinda chill w/ them til the 'rents get home then charge like 5$.
after it gets "late" (like 11:00 to 12:00 pm, or whenever u start to kind of feel more uncomfortable) then you can charge a dollar more per hour. but make sure u are a good babysitter who the kids really like so they give a good report. then the parents are likely to pay you more than the asking wage and call you back more often. oh, and if the parents have you staying there until the wee hours of the night and paying you like crap, dont babysit for them anymore or talk to them about it and tell them u need to raise your wage.

How many kids and how old are they? generally the more the kids the less per child fee unless the extra one is in diapers and then you are just lucky enough to find a 12 year old to be responsible enough to trust.
Does the 12 year old child have to be picked up and dropped off or is it close enough to walk?
If it was in my city, the goin rate is $6 an hour for one kid $10 an hour for two kids that behave. I guess a lot variables to consider to give a definitive answer.

My fiance always charged between 2-3 dollars per hour, per child. So it sounds cheaper instead of saying a flat rate.

i think of it relies upon on the age of the babies you're babysitting. £5 an hour looks lifelike, yet are not you slightly youthful to be babysitting? maximum human beings might somewhat have an older & greater matured guy or woman to babysit their babies, yet you should consistently start up with cousins ect

It depends on where you live. Ask around for the going rate.
