me getting a gift card for my brother as a 2nd Christmas gift. He says it's inconvenient and small. I'm so irritated by him. It's my choice isn't it? Anyways, is a gift card that bad? It seems to be popular this year. Guess my dad is so traditional.

My brother is 23 years old, not some teenager so my dad dosen't have to worry about driving him. I think he's being unreasonable here.

Some stores' gift cards come with a choice of pictures on them. That helps make it even more personal, especially if you need to get it from a larger store, like Target. My sister always chooses the cutest pictures for the gift cards she sends. I appreciate that.

If your dad is worrying about the card's being so small it'll get lost under the tree, you have a couple of choices. Wrap it in a big box or a set of nesting boxes that get smaller and smaller as your brother opens one after the other; the gift card is in the smallest box, of course. (If you do this, be sure to be considerate and not use up all the boxes in the house that other people will want to use for wrapping their own presents!) Your other choice is to wrap it small and hang it on the tree where you know exactly where it is. Tell at least one parent of the little gift's whereabouts.

If you'd really like to keep Christmas peace around your house, however, I'd suggest you surprise your dad by agreeing with him. It doesn't matter whether a gift card is "that bad" or not; if your dad doesn't like the idea it may just be the best thing to do as he wishes. He may have reasons you don't know about, or he may just be being totally unreasonable for no reason at all. He is still your dad, regardless of which of these is true. Your agreeing easily with him would be a present to him, whether he acknowledges it or not.

How is a gift card "inconvenient"?? And so what if it is small? Makes a great stocking stuffer. Personally, I love receiving gift cards. Maybe your dad doesn't want to have to drive your brother to the store to use the gift card?

Okay, so if he's 23 and this has nothing to do with your dad, get whatever you want. Your dad will have to get over the fact that he cannot control everything (nor should he try).

Personally, I think Gift cards are a great Idea!
I like to buy the gift card, say for-instance, if the person I am buying for loves music or reading, I buy a card from Hastings etc.
Have a Merry Christmas!

How old is your brother? I f he's too young to drive to use the gift card, then it's inconvenient for who ever has to drive him. Like your dad. Or if you brother is like under 14, he probably will still get the thrill of opening something up and being surprised-or not.

Some people don't like gift cards because they think it's impersonal and some people think you didn't put much thought into it. I guess that's what some people don't like about them.

Maybe you can make something with or for your brother. Give him a gift card you made that offers something you'd think he'd like. You know if he's little, like you can help me bake 2 dozen of your favorite cookies. If he's older you'll bake them for him.

Good luck!

gift cards are the ultimate present they allow the recipient to chose their own gift but not pay for it. also you dont have to spy on them or ask them to find out what they already have or what they need. The only downfall is that when people want presents they want you to give them something. when you give them a card its a let down because they still have to travel to the store before they can enjoy the gift.

Hey - a Gift Card is a GREAT Idea -- and the recipient can then choose what they want (and it does not even matter how much the card is worth -- as long as the recipient enjoys the store or restaurant!).

Better to be safe than sorry. Besides how many people take a gift card back to the store versus how many people take a sweater that is 3 sizes too big?

I prefer getting gift cards in stead of regular presents, because then I get to choose what I want. As long as you don't put a wimpy amount of money on there it's usually ok.
Get it from his favorite store rather than like, walmart or target, which makes it less personal.

it all depends on the type of gift card youa re getting him i think it is a rather good idea to a point but most gift cards lose value over time so if your brother doesnt use it he may lose it thats one reason gift cards arent great gifts,

gift cards can be taking your money away, you purchase it, put money on it, but someone couldve already taken a look at the numbers on the back, go online, and use up the money before you knew waht happened.
