ok here is the plan (i did this exactly and now have a paid for car that does 12 second qtr. mile times and looks and drives cool) look in the paper or craigslist for a 1988-1993 4 cyl MUSTANG with a 5 spd (i found a driving hatchback example for 700 but have seen notches that are straight go for 400 or so) I bought a used but gauranteed 302 long block from wrecking yard and put in a cheap reground cam and a 4bbl intake(swapping a fuel inj motor is expensive ,carbs are cheap) a fox body oilpan and used shortie headers-now I was doing this on a paycheck to paycheck basis so it took weeks to do some of these steps-then came the bellhousing (junk yard again) then i bought clutch stuff ( now people are going to tell you you can't put a 302 in front of that 4cyl T-5 but you can if you do not try to power shift or abuse the little transmisssion just use a pilot bushing with the proper ID and OD they cost about 2 dollars-lol then get the motor mounts and the "EARS" to bolt them to and get a gas tank from a carb'd 85 mustang and a fuel pump and find some where to do the swap it will take about 3 days of after work sessions or 2 days of 2 people goig hard at it -once you get it going then you can upgrade the driveline put in better heads all kinds of stuff but the beauty is it is paid for and there are MANY mustang websites with people dying to help-mine now has a used 3.73 posi a rebuilt transmission (same 4cyl t-5 just beefed up when i got some more money) a 347 stroker that a local machine shop built on LAY-A-WAY ($20 week for 14 months) aluminum wheels from the junk yard for 9 bucks each ,nice bucket seats out of an EXP for 16 dollars -I have spent 18 months and about 6000 dollars getting into the 12's with NO power adder ,it weighs 3170 pounds and has less than 300 rear wheel horse power but I don't get beat often and i have the pinkslip and NO PAYMENTS !
