Yes, I am sure his is. Some words may not be recognizable at this age, but they are words none the less. 15-20 recognizable words are about the average. Like, Mom, Dad, eat, bottle, hi, bye, any words that are single syllable. Like I said, the words may not be able to be made out just yet, but he is doing well, the more he talks and hears the words the faster they will clear up for the parents to recognize what he is saying.

I think he's right on track. He may be trying to communicate more, but just not having much luck. My 10 month old does a lot of babbling, too, but isn't saying many words except Mama and Dada. He's trying, but the best he can do is "gie" for doggie and "mi" for his Mimi (grandma).

Most 10-month olds can say 2-10 words. Four on average.

At this point, your son is probably practicing making new sounds. If you want him to say more 'real words', think of a few easy ones to say and practice them every with him, pointing out the object as you say it.

by 10 months, their vocabulary is normally at a level where they say words and are starting to connect them with real live things.

When my daughter was 10 months she was saying all kinds of words...most audible was when she spouted the word "s h i t" in the grocery store...that let me know it was time for mom to clean up my mouth LOL

in all the child development courses i've taken, they say that the first word is usually said at around 12 months, so i think that he is on the right track. if he is babbling, then he is just trying different ways to make certain sounds.
