I started gettin knee pain when i was about 13 and it's been off and on pain ever since (i'm 17 now). Both knees have pain but usually they both dont hurt at the same time. It'll switch pain every week or so. It's mostly my right knee, and lately my right hip has been hurting some. It's usually not to bad of a pain though. I know when my aunt was my age she had to have some type of injection. It wasn't too serious. I'm thinkin it may be that and that its genetic. My parents said if it starts to bother my more they'll take me to a doctor. Anybody know what could cause this?

Well, teesip, I didn't really expect a set answer. I was just asking for suggestions. If it started to bother me real bad I'd go see a doctor anyway. Its just not that much of a serious pain right now. Thank you to everybody who answered my ? nicely. :)

Sometimes growing hurts. Really, not trying to pull your leg. I would suggest a physical therapist, if you can identify what it is making you hurt, sometimes they can teach you some stretches that help you work something out. x-rays would be helpful to any health care person you visit.

This may be a case of patellafemoral syndrome, where the articulation between the knee cap and the end of the femur is not congruent. This is usually more prevalent in women due to our structural differences. Yet, it can also be caused by weakness in one particular part of the quadriceps as well as tightness of the iliotibial band on the outer part of the leg. Pain usually occurs when the quadricpes are required to be active...going up and down stairs, getting up and down from a chair, etc. It also sounds like you need further evaluation to make sure there is not any structural damage such as a torn meniscus. If it is either of the above, your next step in care should be physical therapy where more hands on examination can be done in order to attempt to correct the problem and decrease pain.

First and foremost....go see a doctor. I have had the same problem. Yes it can be hereditary. I have bad knees on both sides of the family. I actually have arthritis.....you can be born with it. Also if your hip is hurting too it could be because the joints are not in line or in their sockets the way most peoples are. If you played sports in high school, this could've aggrivated the problem. Your doc will prob have you go to physical therapy for exercises to help. Don't worry....most likely you won't have to have surgery or anything at this young of an age.

Do you honestly think anyone on this board can answer your question unless they are a Dr. or RN?................Duh!
Go see the Doctor.
When I need medical attention I sure as heck won't go down to the labor pool and ask the laborers what they think it is............geeeeze!
