He's taxing. He takes the fun out of flying. He goes off on tangents when I ask a simple question, like "Is it better to land into the wind or with the wind at your back?" Well, duh, I know the answer, but I wanted to hear him agree with the obviously right answer. Instead he went off on a tangent about some show he saw on TV where someone somewhere at somepoint defied gravity on a treadmill. I mean what gives? Bottom line, what do I do next? Blow him off or stick with it, knowing he knows more than I. I'd appreciate anyone who's ever flown to chime in.

The relationship with your flight instructor is an extremely important dynamic of your learning and personalities definitely come into play on this. If you are not enjoying the time with your instructor is sounds like you need to switch, I suggest that meet with the Chief Flight Instructor of the flight school and express that you feel your instructor is extremely qualified but you just don't feel like he is the right fit for your training. I am sure the Chief Flight Instructor will totally understand and I can almost guarantee you that it is not the first time that he has heard this.

I worked at a flight school for many years and we had students in the same situation you are in now.

Hope this helps and good luck!

From what you say, he is wasting your time. Get another instructor.
