As long....as WHEN you put the bolts in....the little " arrows" or " dots" were lined up......the camshaft and crankshaft are in " time"...the marks indicate either firing on #1 or #6 in the firing order.

he probably had the distributor out when he turned the flywheel

so he will need to turn the engine until the number one piston is at TDC of its compression stroke

and whatever spark plug cap tower the rotor is pointing at is what one the number one wire needs to be plugged onto

or he could pull the distrib out and set it the way the factory had it, which is the tower that is the second one away from where the wires plug into the cap, in clockwise direction 18436572 clockwise around the cap

driver side front is number one cylinder

pass side front is number 2

even ones on pass side and odd ones on driver side front to back

the firing order and the cylinder numbers are cast on the intake,

each cylinder number is cast on the intake on the end of each intake runner by the edge of the valve cover, pretty big, cant miss them

easy stuff

good luck

assuming that the distributer was out of the motor you will need to get the #1 piston to top dead center. place your dist. back in with the the rotor button pointing at the #1 piston witch is the front driver side piston put the cap on the dist. the plug wire that lines up with the rotor button is #1 then put your wires on in order

As long as you didnt pull the distributor out or turn it your timing will not change. Are you trying to ask how do you find top dead center on the #1 piston?

just like knowitall said.if you didnt take the dist.out then it still should be timed.
