not to confuse megabits with megabytes, since 8bits is 1 byte, for example:
If you have a 1mbps connection, you should be able to download at a speed of 1 divided 8 = 0.125 MB/s, or 128kb/s, but that's theoretically only, actually, due to interference in the line and other things, you'll be downloading at a speed of 100~110 KB/s aprox. Just try downloading something and check what your download manager or browser reports.

The min and max speeds are set by your ISP, but if it is below 100mbps, complain. 1000kb=1mb
