It is a little awkward to just drive into a reservation neighborhood and get to meet people.
Try going to a Pow-Wow. That is a good place to begin the process of getting acquainted with Native American culture. After attending many Pow-Wows, you may begin the process of developing some friendships. It is better of you drop any agendas or preconceptions you might have. Just be there. Be open. Be attentive to all that is going on.
By using the expression "those people" you create a sense of distance between yourself and Native Americans. Don't let that way of thinking spoil opportunities to establish some connection. We're all humans, doing our best to find our way in life.

THEY ARE ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES and the rest of North America. but, you can find more than a few in Oklahoma. Please research the net, things are very different than most would assume. I was born in Oklahoma and i lived next to what was referred to as an "addition", which is housing established by the people for the people. You will hear MANY MISGUIDED people claim all sorts of silly notions about present-day Native Americans, but they are Americans just like everyone else, living in the 21st century.

Asking if there is a reservation in Oklahoma is like asking if the Pope is Catholic.
Do you live in Oklahoma? Have you looked at your license plates??
But seriously, go to a Pow-Wow. They're usually advertised and you can meet some great folks.

do no longer permit the negatives fluster you. people who declare to 'do no longer decide on your charity,' are in all probability no longer an Indian. do no longer take it with no attention that all of us that responds to a question approximately interior sight human beings is actual an Indian leaving a reaction! There are pretenders everywhere. do no longer ignore, that's the internet! in case you come to the united states, verify interior the state you're vacationing, oftentimes concentrated visitor centers can factor you in direction of the closest Indian Reservation or Indian college. money is important for many reservations. The poverty in many them, the U. S. government. keeps secret, so it thinks, from distant places countries for propaganda reasons. i hit upon the terrific thank you to donate is in basic terms hand somebody a $5 or $10 in the event that they question me for money whilst traveling via the reservation or perhaps downtown, i do no longer care. Even the reservations with casinos are hurting for money. A on line casino does not assure the elders are being fed. somebody makes money yet that doesn't advise all of us gets a cut back of the pie.

I live right across the border from OK, there are a lot of reservations around here. They don't really want people just coming in to take a look around though...
