regardless of what the FIRST game was, (no, it was NOT pong - that was the first *mass produced* game), there would have been other games. let's say that the first game didn't end up getting made. it is ridiculous to think there would never ever be a different game at some point in time.
onto the question - an unfair question, to be true. there are more parameters that are needed in the question. the best sports game? i wouldnt' know. the best RPG? depends on what system.
yea, depends on what system, that is a major requirement. either system or genre is a must list for this question to have any good answers.
another important aspect is WHEN. what was the all time best game ever - in the year 1992? Mario 3 (still is, in the minds of many) (not me though!)
best ps2 game ever? easy - sega collections disc (the one that came out like last week)

The Best Video Game ever is for xbox 360, its Gears of War. Its awesome, although thats just my opinion.

the best game ever made was final fantasy 7. ther is no game out there that has had such a good plot/storyline, memorable characters, interesting gameplay. i have played through that game many times and each time i find something different how many other games have had such a following none all the others pale in comparison
