I'm having the same debate with myself as well. I'm fairly sure I'm going to take his last name though. His last name sounds better with my first name than my last name does. The hyphenated version has a strange ring to it. It's not a matter of children with us though, since we're certainly not having any! But, if children are in your plan, do you want them to have your hyphenated version? His name? Or yours? Just choose whatever you and your lover feel most comfortable with.

When I got married I asked people the same question. Ultimately I took my husband's name. My father was the only one who would give me an his opinion, which was take his name. Nobody gave an opinion until I officially changed my name. I look at it this way, I will always be my dad's daughter and dad's name will always be mine.

Whatever you do has to feel right for you. Everyone has the option to do as they wish. Sometimes, when professional registrations, etc. are concerned, I've seen women keep their maiden names because it is the name they built their reputation on. For others, one name for the whole family is simpler. You have to do what is right for you.

I've been married twice and took their name... only to find it a hassle to change everything over..... and then when divorced to get rid of it.

If I ever marry again, I'm keeping my name.

God Bless,

Sue

I took my husbands last name when we got married. I wouldn't have had it any other way. I believe that is part of your marriage together.
