Chesterfield Borough Council painted on a wall: "Do not park here, wall being demolished 9/10/96". The wall's still there. Last month I bought a box of Christmas Mince Pies from the Co-Op. I got them home and the best before date was 15th November. The absolute best one I saw was when I worked for the Royal Mail. There was a drinking fountain which had a sign stuck on its backsplash: "Not drinking water".

Sounds like a local council trying to get rid of money without anybody noticing.
I remember a sign many years ago, that I have recorded on 8mm cine film, that quoted, "P FREE SWIMMING POOL"
Now we know it meant parking free, swimming pool, but you should see the way the sign was written, just as I said above.
Laughed about that for years.
There was also a street in the centre of Leeds, that lead to a loading bay for a shop I had to deliver to, that had a no entry sign at both ends. The police pulled me up, for going past a no entry sign, but let me off and laughed when they checked out the signs.

Nearly 20 years ago now our local Council went through this daft phase of planting oblong paving stones vertically into grass areas. They then painted them black, and a few days later came back to stencil in white paint "No ball games".
The thing that really annoyed folk was that the town centre pavements were a hazardous mess with cracks and easy-to-trip-over broken paving.
So someone in our area got to a prominent stone and painted "RIP local democracy" on it after it was painted black. And they kept doing it each time it was painted over and over.
No-one took nor takes any notice of "No ball games", but that was the start of politically correct health & safety nonsense, rather than criminalising Company Directors for killing their workers due to negligence.

All the reports here thus far have been prime examples of local government attempting to outdo national government for top ranks in stupidity, inefficiency, and general idiocy.

i don't know about signs but I did buy a product in the supermarket with a warning on the outside of the packet- "Warning. This product contains nuts". It was actually a packet of dry roasted peanuts!

I %. up after my canines, no remember the place I take her. i'm the only one in our entire community. it style of feels that many canines vendors discover it "too disgusting", even with the undeniable fact that maximum will inform you another reason like "I forget a bag" or "I also have a bad lower back" or provide another excuse. of direction, while the interior of sight government tries to make the park off limits for canines, those canines vendors will whinge the loudest with regard to the "unfair" treatment...

I've heard that there is a sign somewhere that says ''do not throw stones at this notice'' but I don't know where it is or if it really exists.

That's the really small one that you have to get real close-up to read, right? by walking across the lawn?
