I'm sure they are capable of doing it right now given it had been planned for a good 5 years. There is absolutely no reason to blow some billions of dollars to go up there just to walk around however. If they are going up there they should try to make a colony or at least bring apparati with them to start building it.

What for?
The Moon race was the product of the cold war. With that over there is no need. We have advanced a great deal in robotics and it is cheapper and more efficient to send robotic missions that can last longer and do a lot better that humans. Look at the Mars rovers, over a year and still running, remeber Galileo in Jupiter, Cassini in Saturn, Pionner I and II, Voyager I and II. No way any human will endure that long in space.

Probably not until after the next presidential election plus one year.
Bush believes that Valhalla and Demons exist on the moon and most other extra-terrestrial objects, with hell culminating in the center of the sun!

We could do it three years from now if it was important enough to have a "crash program" to get it done.
