I have three young trees (lemon, Lime, and Orange) outside in my yeard. The lime has had many blooms, but no fruit has made it past pea size. The lemon has only had 3 blossoms in 3 years. The orange has not had any blossoms since I first planted it. I fertilize every ~3 months with a citrus fertilizer. How can I encourage fruit production? Also am interested in remedies for leaf miners.

Young citrus trees are very susceptible to heat stress-if there's insufficient water during hot weather, your trees will drop their fruit I'd advise you to make sure you keep the soils under your trees moist during periods of hot weather. This is most important after the trees are blooming and shortly thereafter.

Also... remember not to over-water prior as your citrus begins to ripen. The roots will pick up too much water and you'll often see the fruit to split/crack.

As for your question regarding leaf-miner control....I've read that there's now a product that controls leafminer on citrus for the home gardener. It's sold as "Green Light Lawn and Garden Spray" and contains the active ingredient called Spinosad.

For maximum protection of citrus leafminer on home garden trees is obtained if sprays are applied when the new foliage is only half emerged and the first affected leaves are just beginning to curl.

Here's a website that might be able to help you locate the product;

Hope this information was of help. GOOD LUCK!

An Orange tree takes longer than 2 years before it starts to bear fruit. A good thing to do with them is to urinate under them. I am not joking. It helps the tree for some reason. You can always P I S S in a bottle and poor that on every day. We have had an Orange tree for over 30 years and still do it if we think it needs a pep up
