Hello, I'm, 17 years old and I'm wondering why this happens. This usually occurs when I'm asleep , just about to go to sleep, sometimes daydreaming (hardly). It comes out of no where for ex: a finger moves/jerks (usually up) when I had no intention of moving it. No thought at all. Does anyone know why this happens. It's not just finger it could be arm/shoulder, leg. etc

My parents dont bother to take me to a doctor. They think it's BS and tell me "it's all in my mind"...but the funny thing is, I'm not sending any signals to brain to move anything!!

It's normal, and known as a myoclonic jerk. Basically, your mind believes you're dying because everything (breathing, sensory response, etc.) is slowing down, so your brain sends a signal to a part of your brain (for me it's usually my legs) and shocks 'em.

I dont think its anything serious. Sounds like your nerves jerk from time to time... I have what they call Restless Leg Syndrome(RLS)...It's where the nerves in my legs jump making it really hard for me to fall or stay asleep... I've never got it checked out by a doctor but it runs in my family... But it sounds like your nerves are causing your body parts to move involuntarily... If it feels like needles are stabbing you then you should get it checked out... Try cutting down on the caffeine and take a warm bath before you go to sleep and that should calm your nerves..hope this helped..

NORMAL.
Your brain has to go through a process to shut down your body so you can effectively sleep and dream..
sometimes a switch gets bypassed so the arm is paralyzed but the finger is still active..
don't stress and Sweet Dreams

Doing the herky/jerky ?
What you are describing is common with many people and doctors have many different labels to accompany the many guesses for these symptoms.
Many people have realized permanent relief from these symptoms by introducing supplemental minerals into their diet.
You might think it odd that something as obscure and perhaps even as mundane as minerals could or would make a difference in the human body and that is understandable.
Having said that, I am reminded that minerals are required by every cell in our bodies, both internally and for cell to cell communication
*** Modern farming practices strip available minerals from the land and as a result our foods no longer contain a full complement of Vitamins and Minerals as they once did.
Couple that with modern dietary practices and coffee intake, both of which require even higher mineral counts to offset the losses of minerals to these practices and you have a situation waiting to happen
TAKE MINERALS A Calcium/Magnesium supplement with tons of trace minerals with meals
Don't believe me, PLEASE Try it for 21 days - Decide for yourself

It could be a result of anxiety or nervous system overload or something worse. If you have the means to go to your dr about it so it and if he/she has concerns they will refer you to a neurologist.
