It depends on your definition of better. There are pros and cons to either: The wii could quite possibly revolutionize the video game world with it's live-action controllers and the like, and is obviously better for health, paritcularly keeping children active while playing video games. On the other hand, the PS3 is backward compatible with both PS2 and regular PS games, which no other system (including computer systems, which frequently don't work with newer versions of Windows) has continued to do. The cost benefit of a wii may also be a factor for you. Setting priorities and determining which best suits your needs and budget would be a good way to decide which system is truly "better" for you.

A matter of opinion.
The PS3 brings traditional console gaming to it's zenith. Power, graphics, and the controller is the one we all know and love.
The Wii puts a new twist on gaming. The goal is to immerse yourself in the game and get a better gaming experience that way.
Both system have backwards compatibility and a wealth of extra features. The PS3 does have a blue ray player which currently sell for around a thousand, so in that respect it is a good deal.
The wii does cost less than half the PS3 though, and this cannot be discounted.
The decision, as in the past, will come from the games. Whichever system that has the better games will be victorious in the end. Because of this, it is far too early to tell which system will be the better.

The $599 price tag, $80 dollar games and the fact that it's just a PS2 with a few more features makes me think the Wii is better.
