My God I cannot believe some of these answers. The "trap" of the venus flytrap is simply the plants "leaf". It would be like taking the leaf of any plant and lightly toughing it to your childs hand. Dont pay attention to these ridiculous people.. Good LORD!

A venus flytrap cannot tell the difference between a fly crawling on it and a childs finger touching it. They close in response to anything touching the leaves. If you get one put it where a 4 year old can't reach it.

Yes you can put your finger in a Venus Flytrap. No it will not hurt you. And yes, they are safe to own, but in my experience, a booger to maintain.

Please don't feed you 4 year old to the plant. I know it's hard, but just wait, soon your kid will be a teenager-THEN you can feed the kid to the plant.
