EDIT: By the way guys, thank you for all your responses. I have already tried the free trial and I love it even with the max lvl cap of 20 for the demo. I am positive now that I will love playing WoW, but I will take what some of you guys said seriously about the addictive nature of the game. I've decided to buy it, but also set a limit for myself for each day so that it doesn't take over my life. Again, thank all of you guys for the quick responses.

World of Warcraft is entering a stale state right now, it has been out for so long that it is getting really boring for most players. Yes it is true that there is always something to do to keep you busy but for standard playing, you run your raids and that's it. However, next month The Burning Crusade is being released, this is the much anticipated expansion to World of Warcraft.
The expansion features two new playable races, the Blood Elves (Horde) and the Dranei (Alliance). Not to mention a brand new starting area, the Outlands. The expansion also features what most players have been clamoring for since the release of the original, a raise in the max level cap. As it stands, players are done gaining experience at level 60, however from now on, the max level cap is going to be 70, a fair goal indeed. And lastly the final major new feature will be jewel crafting as a profession. Personally I am not 100% of where this will be heading other than socketing items, similar to Diablo 2 perhaps.
As of right now, before your buy it, use the 10-Day Free Trial that you can get. Sign up for a trial account, download the client and play for free for 10 days. This will give you a good idea if you like the game. Once you decide, you can buy the game or upgrade via credit card and then either buy a subscription or game cards.
Either way, have fun and enjoy.

As a now professional gamer, and leader/co-founder of one of the current top ranking guilds on WoW, I can attest to what that guy said about the Zygor guides from that website http://www.zygorguides.pcti-system.com .. When I first started using them, is when I started taking my WoW gaming to a whole new level. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. As advanced as I am now, I still use them as an awesome reference/aid. Highly recommended if you're serious about being an accomplished WoW gamer, or just a newb looking to quickly learn the ropes and advance. On a side note, I am looking forward to the Warlords of Draenor expansion coming in November, and the updated guide to go along with it. Should be epic.

It's absolutely amazing. Extremely addictive. It's like electronic crack. You feel awesome while you're playing it, constantly think about it when you're not, and once every month you have to go to blizzard and pay for your next fix. Slowly it consumes your life. Your social life will disappear. Grades and work will suffer. But your character just got that awesome sword...
As a previous user, I say don't play it. You are better off without it.
If you want to try it still. You can download a demo version (4GB) from blizzard or buy a demo in stores for $2. Try that out before you shell out $50 bucks for your first fix in your new life as a user.

PLEASE DON'T! This game sucks. Warcraft is the most stupidest game ever.
THINK ABOUT THE COST!
You have to pay $15 a month and for better gamplay, you have to pay $20 a month. It's ridiculous. That's $240 a year!!!
I highly suggest you invest into the Command & Conquer series. Not only are the games affordable, they are also enjoyable too! The graphics are SECOND TO NONE! Also at Command & Conquer, THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR INTERNET MULTIPLAYER!
SO WHICH IS BETTER?
You decide!

As a former player: take great care about the addictive nature of WoW. It's extremely addictive. and in-game all players will readily admit it's addictive, outside of the game they are typically less forthcoming with that kind of information.
You need to buy a retail box first, it contains aside of the CDs a code you need to register for an account.

The gameplay is great, the controlls are easy to pick up, the graphics are amazing, and the people are normally friendly. The game is well worth the $15 a month!!

It is fun for about a year. Then it starts to get grueling and stressing, then just plain boring.
