Why don't we address an issue that is our impending doom?

Our planet has so many Swords of Damocles hanging over it that they sound like wind chimes. Global Warming is one of them, and it is only because of an obscene greed that so much effort has gone into trashing every scientist who has ever brought up the subject, including those at NASA who were stifled by the Bush Administration. This campaign has been so successful for so long, that most of our public still believes that, contrary to an international consensus of science, Global Warming is a liberal pipe dream distraction designed to hinder the success of hard working businessmen. Even when our news contains at least one story per week of enviormental tragedy, whether it is about the melting of the polar ice caps, or the systematic destruction of marine life in the oceans, we have been so set up by this lobby that few pay much attention. Perhaps when the droughts get more severe, when storms like Katrina get even stronger, and when Florida starts to disappear under the rising ocean levels, the rest of us will demand to know why nobody said anything until now?

Since I haven't looked into all the reports on the subject, I'm not sure what to believe. I do know that do to how much the Twin Cities has grown in my life time we have developed a heat dome of sorts over the two cities. And storms seem to go around us or simply avoid us. Winter is getting milder, but my local weather man has shown patterns of this happening in the past.

(I will also admit that in a joking way, because I live in Minnesota, I would say, "Global Warming, bring it on." I hate being cold and hate cold weather. I didn't chose Minnesota as my home state, I was born here. So eventually I plan to move to Nevada to run away from all this cold weather. Even if it's getting milder.)

You might as well speak about evolution to many of the neo-conservatives on here, as they just don't get it.

That's the one shortfall of traditional conservatism. But, when that belief system was developed, there was no such thing as global warming.

As for me, I'm completely conservative except for global warming. I don't understand how anybody can ignore this issue. Alas, there are too many of these close-minded ones. I find it humorous that their arguments include things such as 'well it will take 100 years so who cares?' I don't really see why that means you wouldn't care.

Maybe when high priced real estate in Miami and New York starts to go underwater they'll understand.

Too late to stop it. It should have been acted on 2 decades ago. We are in for some really big crap regardless of what we do now. We can only try to minimise it. It won't be addressed unless there are votes in it

It is just another excuse to stop people from polluting but my question is why do we need an excuse for that? The truth is that our knowledge of the planets constant climate changes and cycles isn't large enough to know whether global warming is our fault or just another cycle. Now there are reports coming out from some scientists saying global cooling is a more likely outcome than global warming.

because you have the same thing you usually do in politics.
Liberal subscribe to an idea that is backed by science, and the other side denies it with till their last breath, claiming it has a socialist agenda behind it.
regardless of the fact that everything that science says GW is being caused by is somethign we should be concerned about whther or not GW is or is not occuring.

it's not our impeding doom- If we take steps right now to turn things around. If we don't' stop what we're doing to the planet soon, we'll all wind up like New Orleans.

Pure junk science, and that's proven fact. What's happening with global warming has happened over and over in history, it's perfectly natural and necessary.
