Currently, the term for president is 2 possible terms of four years. The idea I came up with was 2 year, unlimited terms. Also, the title of Commander in Chief is given as an assignment to Secretary of Defense, who should be required to have served at least once in the military with no outstanding blemishes (i.e. dishonorable discharge, AWOL, etc.) Comments?

Roach Cop: My idea is that the Secretary of Defense is the Commander in Chief as opposed to the president. Just pretend Clinton's still president, okay? Would you want him making decisions concerning war, or the Secretary of Defense. And it's the SoD who should have mandatory military experience, doubt Karl Rove would know anything about war. Unless you want to use the Clinton analogy...

Stupid idea. The president would spend nearly half of his or her (for you Clinton lovers) time on the campaign trail. I think one 6-year term would be better for all.
I do like your secretary of defense idea though. The boss should have a clue as to what the job he is overseeing is all about.

not such a hot idea. IF you're focusing on elections every 2 years, you're not going to be trying to govern for the next 50 years or for a long term plan, but just for the next election. as it is, term limits allow the president to Focus on real problems, not campaigns.
Unfortunately, our current president hasn't got that through his head yet... Bill Clinton did though, and Reagan before him, at least in their second terms.

Wrong on a whole lot of counts. How about Franklin Delano Roosevelt, arguably the most beloved president we've had? Under your idiotic stipulations, he wouldn't have been allowed to run BECAUSE HE HAD POLIO. Your idea is backwards and dumb. Military prowess doen't necessarily equate to good leadership. I don't believe that anyone would follow Wesley Clark to a garage sale.

Good idea, but when Democrats are in office, it's one 1-year term and you can never get re-elected.
