Is it possible you were sleeping on your hand or something? That could be a simple solution...
However..
People with diabetes can, over time, have damage to nerves throughout the body. Neuropathies lead to numbness and sometimes pain and weakness in the hands, arms, feet, and legs. Problems may also occur in every organ system, including the digestive tract, heart, and sex organs. People with diabetes can develop nerve problems at any time, but the longer a person has diabetes, the greater the risk.

Generally it's normal to be stressed out and have your heart racing, however, if it persists for a length of time ( more than 10-15 minutes ) you should consult a health professional. If your heart pumps too fast your brain will get too much oxygen and you may feel light headed and even pass out. Nothing to be too alarmed about, but make sure you keep it in check.

do you test your sugar with a a test kit on a regular basis, and what was the last thing that you ate and how long ago was it.
if you missed a meal it would be enough to throw your sugar off.
if over the next little while the numbness works up your arm, don't hesitate call your doctor or the hospital to inquire about it.
just don't panic, it may be something else altogether.

It's a weekend and really hard to see a doctor. Call the nearest pharmacy, or go to a pharmacy directly and ask a pharmacist, they can give you at least a better answer than yahoo until you can contact a real doctor. Try not to sleep on your hands, leave them as free as you can.

My fiance was having problems with his hands getting tingly and it was Carpel tunnel. I don't know a lot about diabetes, but I do know that it affects blood flow. Definately call your doctor, but if you do any sort of work with your hands (including most jobs, typing, running a cash register, etc) you should talk about that with your doc as well! Good luck!

You may have just been sleeping the wrong way, or on your hand, but i would go to doctor to be sure, you would not want to risk amputation if it is diabetes related and goes on too long

Always, always go to a doctor if you are experiencing numbness. It could be your disks in your spine pinching off nerves. It could be a number of things. Go to the nearest telephone, and call your urgent care department, and go in. Or call your doctor, or call the nurse-line. They will all send you in to the doctor.
