Her 'obstacles' were being a woman during a time when women were not fully accepted in the political arena. When welcomed into that arena as much as was accepted during those times. She was respected and valued yet, due to the times of women back then, yes there were obstacles. Look at women in 'power' today and back then . . . the obstacles of Eleanor Roosevelt's time are clearly seen.

One of the problems is that she was already one of the infamous Roosevelt's ,that inbred consistently to keep power and money in their own family. She married her own cousin Franklin D. Roosevelt and had a son of incest? Her son died, that could be real devastating. Then while in office her husband was brain dead, and left her with the bag. Her mother in law being a blood relative or not was a tyrant from the old European and British belief in monarchs, she was the Queen Sarah, and she ruled with an iron fist and tyrannically ruled over Eleanor and son as well. Eleanor was a kind woman and had wonderful ideas and ideals she tried to the best of her ability.

She was from a very wealth family. In fact, she was a distant relative of her husband FDR. I think second or third cousin. Nevertheless, she was raised with plenty of money surrounding her. Yet she was a brilliant woman who had to live with the fact that she was far from beautiful.
