If you look at the little tab thingy on the bottom near the volume knob, there is like a switch. move it around back and forth till you get the distortion you like.

There are 2 ways ..... ( A ) You can get distortion thru the amplifier.... OR ( B ) You get distortion thru and external foot -operated 'Distortion Box " . Many amps have 2 volume controls, which can be adjusted to create the distortion . The 2 volume controls must be on the same channel ( one is usually called GAIN , and the other is just called VOLUME , or MASTER VOLUME , or POST , or something else. If your amp is a 2-channel amp, please don't confuse the volume control on the other channel, which works independent of the first. channel. If U R still confused , ask a guy at a music store .

The other way is a STOMP BOX, (distortion box) operated by your foot. They are made by companies like BOSS , DIGITECH , MARSHALL , and others . They plug in between your guitar and amp using an extra 1/4 - inch guitar cable. The 1st wire from your guitar plugs into the " IN " hole , and a 2nd wire must be connected from the " OUT " hole into your guitar amp .

First off, you should look on your amp, if you have one, and see if it has a distortion setting, if it does go ahead and play around with it. Get the best sound that you feel you need. My suggestion is that you go down to your local guitar shop and buy a distortion stomp box, or get a multi-effects pedal from Digitech, Zoom, et al.
