....humanely kill a cow, chicken, fish, and eat it..

but not a dog or cat...?

When I asked a simple question "Is it legal to humanely kill and eat a dog/cat" - I was roundly accused of being

"psycho"
"insane"
"pathetic"
"murderer"
"sick"

Yet cattle, pigs, fish, poultry are killed everyday, there are huge processing plants, and we almost all eat dead animals..

Are people just full of sh1t, or is there some "pet psychology" going on...Do people think about their answers..?

By legal definition, you can humanely kill any animal and eat it. BUT, there are legalities and formalities on such actions, which any abattoir could go into long detail describing to you, if they had the time.
Some cultures do eat different animals then most of us in N. America would care to know about, and some countries find us appalling in the choices of animals we choose to eat.

However there are laws governing the processing of meats for human consumption. Look into it.

Well you cannot legally kill a dog and eat it, because they are licenced, and I don't think it is legal to kill someone else's pet and eat it because that is theft. And I expect some animal protection group would come and get you.
As for the rest of the animals, farm animals have to be taken to an abertuer to be killed, (to make sure it is done properly) you cannot kill you're own cow or sheep and eat it, also if livestock of yours dies you must pay some little man to come and take it away (nobody actually does of course, they just say the animal was taken away by foxes or something).
Also all livestock must be licenced too so if one goes missing without being reported then I think you get a nasty letter or a fine or something.
I have killed chickens and rabbits and eaten them (I sound awful there, I do cook them first you know, and use a recipe and that, and kill them properly beforehand!)
And yes, for your final question, some people do think about their answers.

Do you live in the USA? In some Asian countries eating dogs and cats is ok. In some countries you can be killed for harming a cow.

If people think you want to eat their pets they won't like it. It isn't rocket science.

BTW, I don’t believe in "humane... killing" but I do eat meat almost every day. The world is not black or white. Don't be surprised to get angry responses when you ask an inflammatory question.

Good question mate. It gave me good food for thought. While i think it may be illegal in this country to kill a cat or a dog for food in this country, i kind of see a good point in your question.
I think people are just blinded by the traditional domesticated pet cat/dog thing .
People in foriegn countries have eaten dog and cat for years. So over in these countries it would be deemed perfectly acceptable . In fact they probably think its strange that we in the western world find this disgusting .
Interestingly enough there are plenty of societies , religions and indeed countries where the consumption of pork is highly forbidden and thought of as disgusting .
Maybe people should look at the psychology behind the question before calling you horrible names.
Good question and well put opinions , though i wouldnt eat dog myself .

To answer your question it is all in how you were raised as to what you will eat. Depending on what part of the world you live in, your culture plays a big part.

In the USA it is not acceptable to kill dogs and cats for food, we just don’t consider this a food source. And you would be charged with cruelty of animals.

People in India do not eat cows, they are considered sacred,

People in china do eat and raise dogs on farms for slaughter; St. Bernard’s is one of the breeds they raise.

The Europeans like horse meat, another unacceptable animal to eat the US.

It all deepens on where you live!

In india you would get the same responses for asking that questionabout a cow. People in other cultures eat dog and cat on a routine basis. In america and many other places we have domesticated them and while not idolize them as they do the cow in india, we definatly see them above the food line for humans. SO I guess you just got the wrong group to ask that question to.

It seems to be a cultural thing...in the US people think of their pets as part of their family. We consider cows, chickens, pigs, etc. as food. They are raised solely for the purpose of eating. In other cultures (Asian) is is perfectly normal to eat a dog, and in India, killing a cow would get you sent to prison.

One of the most satisfying meals of my life was when I picked a chicken, killed her, plucked her and gutted her before handing her to my Aunty to cook! When you go through the whole experience you understand slaughter, and why it is good! I have travelled the world and eaten a variety of animals, cats and dogs are like bread and water to me!

Ignore your personal attachments to the meat, people! Are you saying that a cat or a dog is an equal to a human? If so, turn Veggie!

well you think about it ive had pet ducks raised from ducklings and ate them same as pigs, chickens, turkeys, cows, rabbits, etc also i go fishing and kill and eat the fish. whats the difference as long as you did it humanley, right in this country a horse is clasified as a pet and yet my verry own step-mother has eaten it. we eat cow, pork, fish, chicken etc but depending on the country they wont eat certain things not because it is illigal but because they believe it is a sacrad animal in their religion etc.
cats and dogs are neither sacrad nor illigal to eat but i wouldnt recommend having it as a pet and getting to know it before you ate it.
p.s ive heard that hamster is good and if you wanna eat it then im guessing you have a strong stomach good on ya its survival of the fittest.

it's different in different areas of the world, in india nobody would dream of killing a cow, in places dog is a healthy meal, some countries make a 3 course meal out of snakes and bugs.
other places people are known to eat turtles.

in our country cats and dogs are considered pets and usually regarded as one of the family so it is less acceptable to eat them.
