You're talking about the Shettles Method of gender selection. The idea that the longest living sperm--the ones that live up to 5 days--are more likely to be the ones carrying the X (girl) chromosome. Therefore, the earlier the sex, the more likely the only living sperm around at ovulation are girl sperm.

It hasn't been proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, but there is plenty of evidence to support it. One example, more boys than girls are born to women who undergo artificial insemination. AI is timed very close to ovulation. According to Dr. Shettles, the reason for the predominance of boy births is that the sperm carrying the Y (male) chromosome are quicker than the X carriers.

There are no absolutes, of course. Many girls are conceived close to ovulation, and many boys were conceived from sex that happened days prior to it. It's simply a matter of odds.

I have been told that girl sperm last 7 days where as boy sperm only last 3 days thats why there are more girls being born cause they can last up to the ovulation where the boy sperm die out quickly

you always hear different things and everyone knows if it is a girl because it is setting so low or even the key if the key turn one way it is a boy if it turns the other it is a girl . It is the way it falls but I am sure your husband isn't fighting with you. It is funny I was in church a few years ago and this family comes down the stairs and it start with a little girl and one he hind another and you can see the age between each one and there was 8 of them and then I saw there mother and I said to myself that the husband must have been trying for a boy and then I saw the dad holding his boy a little baby and he was happy but 9 kids WOW

I have heard that the female sperm swim longer and the male swim faster. So if this theory were true than yes, it would work.

Ironically this is a theory my dog breeder uses (I train dogs for a living) based on how many males or females he wants in his litter and he has been breeding for years.

There is a poster I was reading her answers, (professional mom) she reccomends reading this book
_Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler.

Go through her questions, you may find something useful.
I do remember her saying that only have a third if you are prepared to have another boy.
Dont find out the sex until the delivery because you will be less likely to be upset looking at your newborn boy, than if you found out during pregnancy. (she has 4 boys and one girl.)

It is not accurate at all.

People who believe in urban legends like that, of course, spread them.

There is some evidence to support the idea that "XY" sperm DO move faster than "XX" sperm, on average. But none to suggest that the "XX" sperm live longer. Besides, even when you separate sperm like that, you get some "XX"s mixed in with the "XY"s. Saying male sperm are faster is an average, and does not hold true for every one of the billion or more sperm in each ejaculation. You can't choose the kid's sex that way. Sorry.

I've heard the same thing and it may have some merit to it, but then there's also the theory that what you eat affects the PH levels in your body and can nurture either gender.... None of these theories can be entirely relied upon though as there's just not enough evidence to substantiate them. Maybe you could try both - the diet in conjunction with the timing of intercourse??? Anyway good luck!!!

I have only heard that it depends on the X or Y
genes from the man, that makes the baby a boy or a girl.
