The best gift is one that shows you know who he is and what's important to him. If you don't know, the best gift might be finding out. You could also make a coupon book to give him something he might need - time from you doing yardwork, cleaning out garage, running errands.
I loved shopping for books for my dad. He loved science fiction and I couldn't keep track of what he read in that genre, so I made a habit of keeping my eyes open all year long for reviews of books from other genres that would appeal to him. To my great joy, he read dozens and we talked about most of them.
One book I got him that he really loved was "The Known World."

Why dont you try a hug and a kiss and thank him for everything he has done for you and thank him for being your dad. Sometimes words mean alot more then money...... And dont forget to say I love you
