My mom thinks that SHE decides whether I use pads or tampons and what brand they are.

I want to try tampons, and she gave me an automatic no.

Then I told her the pads she got me are too thin; she was all, "They're the cheapest brand so that's what you'll have to live with."

I mean, that really isn't fair. It's my body, isn't it!? I'm not even blood-related to her, I was adopted.

So really, it isn't fair that her being cheap is affecting my body, right?

So what am I supposed to do?

She buys them, but I can't get into a store myself without her behind me every damn second.

If she is paying for them, then she has ultimate say. Try to reason with her that you really want tampons because they are more comfortable, and maybe you feel they are more sanitary (i think they are, i don't like the blood touching me all day when i wear a pad). But until you can get a job and buy your own, you're going to have to try to reason with her, or just deal with her choice. Sorry, but i also had to deal with my step dad's cheap *** for many years until i could get my own job and buy my own things. Good luck!

My mom did the same thing to me except she'd get the pads that were so huge that if you moved wrong it would shift. God that was a horrible time in my life! I finally ended up using tampons when i was out of town and started early while visiting a friend. When I got back home I sat my mom down and told her that it helped me to use them because it was just all around cleaner and I didn't feel so selfconscious. She wasn't happy but let me decide (finally after 3 years!) I really think this is a personal issue and she should get you the tampons. Just tell her that there are store brands that can be as little as 3 bucks for a pack of 80. That's cheaper than what she'd be paying for pads. Just approach her in a nice (not whining or upset) way and plead your case.

some moms get worried that if you use a tampon it will "ruin" your virginity - know what I mean? But this is totally not true. You could google this topic and show her the research, if that's the problem. Do you earn your own money through a job or baby sitting or something? In that case you could buy some thicker pads - or maybe the counselor at your school could help you out? You'd still be following her rules that way, but you'd get some pads that will not leak at least. Even though you're adopted, it's a pretty low blow to say that she doesn't care for you in the same way - don't you think? I hope you haven't said that to her - it would probably really hurt her feelings and it certainly won't help her to really listen to your concerns about this pad/tampon issue. Good luck

I don't know what to tell you, but I guess you'll have to follow your mom's orders for now until you're of age to get your own stuff. Your mom is too controlling.

You can try getting the pads and tampons at the restrooms at most public places. Many schools and workplaces have them.

I wouldn't steal from your mom's purse to get your own tampons/pads. That would get you into trouble. I don't think you want that along with this problem

When I was a teen, my mom let me get the pads I was comfortable with; not what she liked. Also my Dad always bought my pads back then.

She's probably doing it for your best interest.
Tampons are good but not always safe, they can cause TSS, which can be fatal if not treated and no one wants to go through that. If you're a virgin, wait till you lose your virginity before using tampons, because then they're easier to put in without force because the vagina is used to being stretched by something.

As for the pads, if they are too thin then line the pad with some toilet paper.

Tampons are expensive too, and carry a risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, which can be fatal, so I cant blame her there. But...Even the no name brands of pads have different thicknesses and types (overnight, extra long, heavy flow) and they are all the same price, just different styles. You are old enough to decide this, that is not fair and she should respect your privacy and your choice. IIts the same as if she were to choose your underwear, that would be cruel and insensitive, and shows that she is a control freak! Good luck

Well if you want to try tampons ask your nurse at school for some or your friends. I'm sure your mom isn't riding your *** there. Also try talking to her , ask what the big deal is. My mom was afraid to use them and she also didn't know how to use them. So i showed her and now thats all she uses. They are wonderful so give them a try. Besides what is your mom gonna do if she finds out that you are using them? Ground you?( which isnt so bad....)

Do as your mother says.

Tampons are not always a good idea. I am sure she has a reason. And if the cheapest pads are what she can afford, use them just change more often

Your mother doesn't want you to use tampons for safety reasons. I let my 11 year old use them only at swimming but she knows to take them off directly when she gets done. Young girls and older women have to be careful when using tampons. You'll be 18 one day and it won't be a problem at that time. Relax, there are so much more important things to worry about.
